Camelback Mountain & Echo Canyon Recreation Area

Camelback Mountain stands as a prominent landmark in the Valley, named for its unique silhouette reminiscent of a kneeling camel. It’s a premier hiking destination, drawing enthusiasts from across the globe to its challenging trails. The mountain offers two main paths to reach its summit: the Cholla Trail and the Echo Canyon Trail. While both are classified as difficult, the Cholla Trail presents a slightly less strenuous option. Hikers may encounter a variety of wildlife, including cottontail rabbits, lizards, Harris antelope squirrels, along with numerous bird and snake species. The mountain’s flora is representative of the lower Sonoran Desert, showcasing an array of cacti such as saguaro, barrel, and jumping cholla, as well as tree species like Palo Verde and Ironwood, offering a rich, natural experience for visitors.
